Benefits of Copper
There are so many health benefits copper can offer. Many people believe in copper's ability to help lessen aches and pains, but did you know copper is also the most anti-microbial metal which means it doesn't hold germs and can actually kill germs and viruses? The ancient understanding of copper's antimicrobial properties is being rediscovered, with modern research supporting its use in preventing the spread of bacteria, particularly in healthcare settings.
Copper can kill or inactivate a variety of pathogens by interacting with oxygen and modifying oxygen molecules. In bacteria, this disrupts the outer layer, damaging the genetic material and cell machinery, which can lead to cell death. A recent study found that copper also destroys norovirus. Sep 20, 2015
Copper destroys MRSA at a touch. Research from the University of Southampton shows that copper can destroy MRSA spread by touching and fingertip contamination of surfaces. Exposure to copper damages the bacterial respiration and DNA, resulting in irreversible cell breakdown and death of the virus. Feb 23, 2016
Research published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that copper can even be effective against SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the coronavirus pandemic. The study showed that after four hours, the virus was no longer infectious on copper's surface. In comparison, coronavirus was still infectious on other metals for at least 9 hours and plastic surfaces after 72 hours.
So not only is copper beautiful in it's natural form and by heating amazing vibrancy of colors can emerge, it also has health benefits!
